Bill Plympton's illustrations and cartoons have been published in The New York Times, the weekly newspaper The Village Voice, as well as in the magazines Vogue, Rolling Stone, Vanity Fair, Penthouse, and National Lampoon.

 

His political cartoon strip Plympton, which began in 1975 in the Soho Weekly News, grew to be a syndicated feature and appeared in over 20 newspapers.

 

His distinctive style had become easily recognized, when in 1987 he created his first animated film Your Face which was immediately nominated for an Academy Award.

 

Thus began the animation career of the widely acknowledged "King of Indie Animation." As of 2014, Plympton has created over 40 animated short films and seven animated features.​ He is the first artist to individually hand-draw an entire feature film; "The Tune" in 1992.

Ever the hero of, and mentor to, Indie Animators world-wide, in 2012 Bill opened his second Oscar-Nominated Short "Guard Dog" to reinterpreation by animators Internationally. Guard Dog Globarl Jam (video sample shown here) wich went on to win awards like:

• Best Animation, VideoFest 25, Dallas Museum of Art, Sept. 26-30, 2012

 

Now, in 2014, Plympton Studios is working with Bella Fe Films to open interpretation of Your Face to an even more expansive International pool of animators with YOUR FACE GLOBAL JAM:

 

Animators world-wide are invited to interpret three seconds of Plympton's first Oscar-nominated short film Your Face, and an additional Jam-Remix of the soundtrack by Maureen McElheron , to produce a seven minute short which will tour the film fest circuit Internationally.
